Cooper Bohn, a senior at WHS, is leaving his mark by focusing on making the most of his high school experience rather than letting the pressure of grades define these four years.

Golf played a big part in his high school career. He said, “I started in eighth grade and was one of the worst players on the team, but I found a family of guys who would turn out to be some of my best friends, regardless of their skill level in golf.” He continued to use this mindset as a senior leader for his current freshman.

Another key thing in his life is DECA, Bohn says, “I got into this organization as a scared freshman who just wanted to be part of something, but DECA has become one of my life's most important things. It has brought me professionalism, knowledge, and connections, and I couldn’t be more thankful.”

He served on the Westfield DECA board as Underclassmen Rep his tenth grade year, and VP of Competition his 11th grade year. Now he is elected onto the state officer team, serving as VP of Leadership for Indiana DECA, overseeing 4,400+ members all over the state.

Bohn says, “Through competitions, DECA has opened my eyes to various career paths in the business world and guided me down the right path.”

While balancing golf and DECA, Bohn is also involved with the Senior Mentoring program, the LatinX club, and the Charla Club, which showcases his love for Spanish. Bohn is even in some of the academic clubs here, such as NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, and Academic Super Bowl.

Bohn plans to attend either Miami (OH) or Indiana University to study Accounting, to either become a CPA, or go to law school to be an Immigration Lawyer.

“Westfield High School has so many opportunities, so don’t let yourself get too caught up in stressing over grades or the classes you take. While academics are important, the real world values connections and experiences far more than a number on a transcript.” Bohn says, “Get involved, try new things, and find ways to make school fun—whether that’s through clubs, sports, or just enjoying time with friends. The relationships you build and the moments you embrace will carry you much farther than a perfect GPA ever could.”
