With all that is going on in the world, the idea of self care is more relevant than ever. High schoolers in particular are faced with challenges and responsibilities that affect both physical and mental health, and during these times, practicing self care is essential to living a purposeful life. The following are ways to practice prioritizing your health and help you become your best self:
Eat Mindfully
Eat breakfast every morning
Eat vegetables with every meal
Drink lots of water and always have a water bottle on hand
Try to eliminate as much sugar, caffeine, and soda from your diet as possible
Treat yourself! Eat tasty treats to reward yourself but stay away from eating too much junk food at one time
Move More
Exercise every day
Do stretches to loosen your hamstrings
Go for a nature walk and observe your surroundings
Participate in a virtual 5k
Go on a bike ride with your family
Practice yoga and deep breathing
Body Care
Follow an established morning and evening routine
Wash your face when you get home from school
Wear lotion and take care of your skin
Brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes
Meaningful Relationships
Text a family member you do not see every day
Meet up with a friend
Take a social media fast and be more attentive to people who are near you
Give random gifts to your friends
Invite others to go shopping with you
Serving others
Schedule time to volunteer at a local food pantry
Donate clothes you no longer need
Write letters to seniors and veterans
Create care packages for the homeless
Encourage others to volunteer with you
Join a service club here at WHS
Love Yourself
Keep a gratitude journal and record five things you are thankful for each day
Teach yourself how to play an instrument
Dress up and do your hair
Avoid makeup for a few days and embrace your natural look
Surround yourself with people who love who you are
